Chaaya Blu has consistently been one of the best hotels in this area and is situated on a beautiful just to the north of Trincomalee. Having been totally refurbished in 2010, it is decorated in a distinctly nautical flavour using blues and whites. It has an informal laid back atmosphere and families are made to feel very welcome.

All the rooms are large and have magnificent views of the Indian Ocean but are so designed so each retains its own privacy. Of particular note is the astonishingly beautiful infinity pool where you can relax on the many day beds or sun loungers. The private beach is calm and in the wider Passikudah Bay, you can enjoy a variety of water sports.
This is a brand new luxurious contemporary styled hotel opened in mid-2014 and is situated at the beautiful beach of Nilaveli to the north of Trincomalee. The hotel has fantastic views over the golden beach (one of the best in Sri Lanka) and these can be particularly enjoyed from the rooftop bar. All the rooms are finished to a very high standard and all have great views of the idyllic tropical beach and the 2 swimming pools.
The Amethyst Resort in Passikudah offers great value for money.
All the rooms are in semi-detached chalets, some of which overlook the river (where you may see the odd crocodile) and the rest overlooking the sea and the glorious Passikudah Bay with its beautiful golden sands.
Theva Residency is a very modern boutique hotel with astonishing views over Kandy from its hilltop location, and is a drive of about 15mins from the city centre. All the rooms are individual and are simply but luxuriously decorated with splashes of red, yellow and blue – colours often seen at the Kandy Perahera. All the rooms have huge windows to make the best of the views over Kandy. In addition, the Superior Rooms have their own balcony and a private outdoor bathtub! The Suites have more privacy and even better views of the valley from their outdoor Jacuzzi. Meals can be served either in the restaurant, outdoor terrace (from where there are fabulous views of the hills), or in your own room. The infinity pool also enjoys the same views – there are no gardens as such.
