Kandy Lake

Kandy Lake nestles in the heart of the City that adds so much to the city of Kandy. The Bird life
around the lake is fascinating and big Water Monitor Lizards swimming around , Terrapins
sitting on Rocks is a common site here.
The lake was built by the last Srilankan King in 1807. Since then several expansions have been
done to get it to where it is today.

The small island in the middle of the Lake has been used by the King as his personal harem. It
was later used by the British to store Weapons. The British built the Fortress type wall in the
Island.
The Temple of the Tooth is bordering the Lake on one side adding the much needed peace and
quiet to the area. Most of the lake is bordered by the busy road with heavy Traffic that dents
the serenity a bit.
