Polonnaruwa was declared the first city by King Vijayabahu in the 11th century, replacing Anuradhapurawhich had been left abandoned to the invading armies from India. This beautiful colonial house was once the home of a Ceylonese nobleman. In 2013, this was converted into a six bedroomed luxury boutique hotel which uses colonial furniture to good effect, in a modern surrounding. This simple bungalow is located deep inside the Knuckles Mountains (takes about an hour and half to get there from Kandy) using a very windy road. This is perfect for those who prefer get back to nature and spend time walking and enjoying the glorious views here (there are some fantastic walks to be done here ranging from an hour to all day), rather than worrying about the bungalow’s facilities which are pretty basic. The bungalow sits high up on a hillside looking down the valley to the east (there are superb sunrises to be seen here). The food will be mainly vegetarian Sri Lankan rice and curry.
