See the Muthumariamman Temple in Matale

While you’re exploring the historic treasures situated within the Cultural Triangle region of Sri Lanka, be sure to schedule a stop off at the Muthumariamman Temple in Matale.
Most travellers touring the island will come across Matale as they travel between the ancient cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa toward Kandy. Matale is about fifteen miles from Kandy, close to the spice gardens we visit on our Sri Lanka Itinerary15 Day Group Family Tour8 Day Group HighlightsLuxury Tour and Honeymoon Tour of Sri Lanka.
As well as the spice gardens, the Aluvihara Rock Monastery is also located on the outskirts of the city and is well worth a visit while you’re in the area.

Family Holidays in Sri Lanka | Family Tours to Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is stamping its mark as one of the prime family holiday destinations. It offers something for everyone keeping the parents, as well as the children happy.
The children love the random wild life they come across on their day to day excursions such as monkeys, Monitor Lizards, Mongooses, Palm squirrels and sometimes even wild Elephants standing by the busy main roads. The adults are focused on the safaris to try and find The Leopard or the Sloth bear. The big storks, Hornbills and Kingfishes too draw the visitor’s attention.
The activities such as the bike ride through the rice paddy fields and the little villages, Climbing the Lion rock, Walking through the tea plantations, White water rafting, Village tours drinking coconuts and eating rice and curry keep the children on their toes. The parents like to walk in the quiet ancient cities and the calm temples absorbing the slow peaceful walk of life of this Island nation.
The families that like to be adventurers and go off the beaten track have so much to explore. The Knuckles Mountain range is an amazing place for trekking and hiking. You could experience all the different climatic zones in Sri lanka within the knuckles range. You could walk in isolation and feel the real tropical jungles.
Climbing up Ella rock too is a great experience, seeing the southern plains and sometimes even the sea which is about 80 miles away.
After a busy tour the adults and the children will be ready to lie down on the golden beaches of Sri Lanka. Water sports such as surfing, Scuba diving and snorkelling can be very easily arranged locally.
Most of all the Sri Lankan people are very friendly and welcoming. The families will feel very safe blending with these gentle and helpful people.

Laya Waves, Kalkudah

Laya Waves, Kalkudah

This is a small boutique hotel set by itself on the stunning Kalkudah bay (this is the next bay down from Passekudah), so you really do feel as if you are on a deserted tropical beach! It does offer great value for money for the fantastic facilities. One of the rooms is a family room which has a twin-bedded room in the attic, above the master bedroom – great for families!
Kandyan Manor, Kandy

Kandyan Manor, Kandy

Kandyan Manor is a traditional Walauwa located about a 20min drive from the centre of Kandy in and idyllic situation surrounded by rainforest and tea plantations. The manor house itself is very old and there are many old family pieces of furniture. The owners have tried hard to keep that feel of a “home from home”. There are 2 rooms in the house and 2 in small chalets overlooking the lush garden which do have a feel of great privacy. It is basic but the location, service and delectable food are real winners.
A visit to the City of Polonnaruwa

A visit to the City of Polonnaruwa

A World Heritage site and treasure trove of historic relics, the ancient City of Polonnaruwa is among the best planned archaeological sites in Sri Lanka and is not to be missed during your Sri Lankan tour.
Polonnaruwa was declared the first city by King Vijayabahu in the 11th century, replacing Anuradhapurawhich had been left abandoned to the invading armies from India. The city reached its golden age during the reign of King Parakramabahu during the 12th century and much of the grandeur and awe-inspiring monuments erected during this time are still present to this day.
Many of our Sri Lanka tours visit the City of Polonnaruwa, including our 15 Day Group Family Tour of Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Honeymoon Tour. Plus, we can easily incorporate a visit to Polonnaruwa and other historic Sri Lankan sites during a Tailor-made Sri Lanka Holiday!
