Wild Grass Nature Resort is a superb eco-resort where nature is very important. It is situated in about 30 acres of unfenced jungle so wildlife such as wild boar, deer, monkeys and even the odd elephant can be found wandering through. The Villas are set far enough apart so they are all very private. The villas are all built on modern lines using stone, lots of wood and a great deal of glass so you can enjoy the panoramic views – all their layouts are different. You can dine in the Treetops Restaurant, by the pool, under the stars or in the privacy of your own villa.
Royal River Resort is located up a small dirt track in the middle of the jungle some 25mins from the village of Kithulgala which in itself is about 2hrs from Kandy. The hotel itself has been built right over a waterfall on the Ing River so sometimes there can be noise from the river when in full flood. Part of the river has been dammed to create a freshwater pool which is a real joy use and with only 4 rooms, you are likely to have it to yourself. The rooms are very comfortably furnished in colonial style furniture. To many, this is a totally unique and idyllic situation!
This is a small 12 bedroomed boutique hotel that is set in a 25 acre mango estate, paddyfields and Dambulla River. All the hotel rooms are furnished in a contemporary manner with the use of vibrant colours. All have fabulous views of the surrounding mountains. The open sided restaurant is upstairs and has brilliant views of the 50ft long infinity pool and the beautiful countryside.
The Estate House is set in a 62 acre private working tea and rubber estate. Having been built in 1926, this tea planter’s bungalow is a unique chance to experience a bygone era. It was completely refurbished in 2010 to become a beautiful peaceful boutique hotel. It is located on a hillside at 1,100ft and so has outstanding views of the surrounding hills. Kandy is less than an hour away whilst Pinnewala Elephant Orphanage is 25 mins away.
This charming eco-lodge is a real treat if you want to experience nature close to and where there is a real feeling of peace and tranquillity. Built on 5 acres, the accommodation has a number of dwellings built using local products – mud, wood and thatch. There is even a treehouse from where you can watch the local wildlife. The food which is very good indeed, can either be served in the restaurant or your own verandah.
The Lakeside hotel in Anuradhapura was formerly known as Tissa Wewa Grand Rest House (it looks over Tissa Wewa- this is a lake) and was originally built by the British in 1907. It then became a former Dutch governor’s residence.
More recently it has undergone a total renovation bringing it into the 21st-century so it now offers very comfortable accommodation at an affordable price in the historic city of Anuradhapura.
There four types of room available at The Lakeside hotel; the Superior room, Semi deluxe room, Deluxe room and Suite room. The Superior room is equipped with adjoining bathroom with shower, air conditioning, safe, tea and coffee maker, hair dryer, widescreen TV with satellite, mini bar, room service and free Wi-Fi.
