Sitting within four acres of immaculate landscaped gardens, Hotel Suisse is perfectly located within central Kandy, right on the banks of the famous and historic Kandy Lake.
This large hotel in the centre of Kandy is steeped in history and in the 17th century was the home of the Chief Minister of the Royal Granary. It has changed hands a number of times since then, first bought by the British who used the impressive building and grounds as a residence for a prominent army officer. The house was then sold to a Swiss who ran the building as a hotel; although during the world war the hotel was the headquarters of the South East Asia Command. Post war the hotel became what it is today, a high standard hotel enjoyed by many.
Hotel Sapphire is budget hotel that offers very good value for money compared to the many business hotels in Colombo.
It is located some 15 minutes from the centre of Colombo and from there it is an hour to the airport, so is convenient for a night in Colombo before departure. The rooms are very spacious but the bathrooms do tend to be on the small size.
This old colonial hotel was built in 1864 and was once said to be the largest hotel east of Aden let alone Sri Lanka!
It has the most fantastic situation right by the Indian Ocean overlooking Galle Face Green, yet right close to the heart of Colombo. The old part of the hotel has recently undergone a very sympathetic renovation and refurbishment.
This modern budget hotel in Kandy is in a great position on a hill overlooking the city but being only a kilometre from the town centre, is very easy for site-seeing in Kandy.
All the rooms offer the usual modern amenities though Wi-Fi is only available in the public areas. Of particular note is the lovely swimming pool. This budget hotel offers great value for money.
This is a beautiful old stone built colonial bungalow set way off the beaten track deep in the heart of the fantastic Knuckles Mountains. It’s a 2hr drive from Kandy –and there is very little other accommodation to be had in the area. It is far more basic but it’s the scenery that is the star here – take in the astonishingly beautiful scenery from the verandah and do several of the walks to explore this area where very few tourists go.
